There are two coat types in Collies. The Smooth Collie - which is a short haired dog, and Rough Collie - a long haired dog. To get Smooth puppies in a litter at least one parent has to be a Smooth. The Smooths are classed as a rare breed in England. They are exactly the same dog as the Rough- just with a short coat that is easier to care for.
